Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has disputed aspects of the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) account of earlier invitations issued in connection with an ongoing investigation.

In a statement outlining what it described as the “facts regarding the said EOCO invitation,” Baffour Awuah said he had never personally been the subject of the investigation.

He explained that the investigation concerned SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, which his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, represented and continues to represent in legal matters.

According to the statement, an EOCO letter dated February 10, 2026, invited the Senior Partner of the law firm to appear before the Executive Director or his representative on February 17 to assist with the investigation.

Baffour Awuah said that by February 18, he had become a Member of Parliament and therefore referred the letter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice.

The statement further said a lawful representative of the firm subsequently cooperated with EOCO and attended interrogations on three occasions — March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026.

It said the representative provided the information requested by investigators, after which a formal written statement dated April 30 was submitted to EOCO.

“It is significant to note that since the lawful representative of the firm engaged with EOCO and provided the information and formal written Statement required, there has been no further invitation.”

The statement also stressed that Baffour Awuah himself had not been the subject of the investigation.

“First and foremost, it should be noted that Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has never been the subject of any investigations,” the statement said, adding that it was SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited that was under investigation.

The development follows EOCO’s confirmation that its officers attempted to arrest Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

EOCO said the attempted arrest formed part of steps to secure the MP’s attendance in an ongoing investigation, after it had invited him on two occasions in February 2026 which it said he did not honour.

The Office said the attempted arrest was not completed after the situation escalated and officers assessed that further action could endanger public safety.

Baffour Awuah, meanwhile, has given a different account of the encounter, saying the person who approached him at the court premises did not provide identification, proof of authority or an arrest warrant when he requested them.

The MP subsequently went to Parliament, where he addressed journalists about the incident.

EOCO, however, maintains that the matter remains under investigation and will review the circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s incident, including available video evidence, before determining its next steps.
