The Executive Director of the Centre for Conflict Resolution, Ghana (CENCOR), Rockson Konde, has held the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for the violence that erupted during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun held on July 11.
Speaking in an interview with ABCE News Ghana, Mr. Konde criticised the EC for creating confusion and distrust through what he described as an “unnecessary procedure” that undermined party confidence and fueled tensions.
“Inconsistency in the Electoral Commission is what caused this,” Mr. Konde asserted, stressing that the EC’s handling of the rerun process directly triggered the breakdown of order.
He said the failure to implement a transparent and fair approach broke trust among key political stakeholders, ultimately resulting in violent clashes at polling centres.
Mr. Konde called for urgent reforms in electoral management to prevent further disruptions and restore faith in Ghana’s democratic processes.
