Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has been elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after securing a commanding victory in the party’s regional elections held on Saturday, August 15.
COKA polled 658 votes to beat his main contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who obtained 269 votes.
Dr Kokofu, a former Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was unable to match COKA’s strong support among the delegates.
The result represents a decisive mandate for COKA to lead the NPP’s regional organisation in the Ashanti Region, a key electoral stronghold of the party.
His victory also comes after COKA publicly expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the election. He had predicted that he would secure at least 90 percent of the votes, citing the strength of his support among delegates across the region.
As the new regional chairman, COKA will be responsible for coordinating the party’s activities in the region, mobilising its grassroots and working to strengthen unity within the party ahead of future political contests.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship is considered one of the NPP’s most influential regional positions due to the region’s longstanding importance to the party’s electoral fortunes.
COKA’s decisive win therefore places him at the centre of the NPP’s regional mobilisation and organisational efforts as the party seeks to consolidate its support base in the Ashanti Region.
