The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested eleven individuals engaged in unlawful mining activities along the Bonsa River in the Western Region.
The suspects, consisting of seven Ghanaians and four Chinese nationals, were apprehended on March 31, 2025, following sustained intelligence-led operations.
Five of the suspects were arrested at a mining site in Bonsa, while the remaining six were captured at Wassa Agona. The arrests signal intensified efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal mining, which has been linked to severe environmental degradation and pollution of water bodies.
All suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before the court. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining security and enforcing the law to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
