The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation following a shooting incident that disrupted political campaign activities in Agona West on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
According to police reports, the gunfire erupted when supporters of Chris Arthur, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, encountered a mini-rally for incumbent Cynthia Morrison at Agona Nyankrom.
Four individuals sustained injuries, with two receiving immediate treatment and discharge, while the other two remain hospitalized.
Haruna Rashid, campaign manager for Chris Arthur, suffered a gunshot wound to his ribs and was quickly transported to Agona Swedru Government Hospital. Cynthia Morrison, expressing her concern, noted she was unaware of the incident until later.
“I didn’t hear it myself and only learned of the incident afterward,” Morrison said, adding to the unsettling atmosphere surrounding the campaign trail.
In response, the police have strengthened their presence in the constituency, pledging swift action to bring the shooter to justice.
“The police have been actively working on the case throughout Sunday night when the incident happened and are closing in on the perpetrator to get him arrested to face justice,” stated the Ghana Police Service.
The police’s prompt action aims to reassure the community amid heightened tensions as election campaigns continue.
