The Electoral Commission (EC) Chair, Jean Mensah, has firmly asserted the Commission’s neutrality in the electoral process, emphasizing that it cannot favor any political party or individual in the quest for the presidency.
Her remarks come amidst rising concerns over the spread of misinformation and allegations that the EC might manipulate outcomes for specific parties.
Addressing representatives of the various political parties during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting today, Mensah cautioned against the dangers of fake news and disinformation, urging them to cultivate a narrative rooted in truth.
“We should not peddle fake news and disinformation,” she stated, highlighting the importance of maintaining public trust in the electoral process.
The flagbearer of All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga echoed similar sentiments, advocating for patience among political parties and underscoring that the EC’s role is not to determine who becomes president.
He affirmed that “the EC can never rig the election for anybody,” urging citizens to remain vigilant and vote wisely.
Ayariga’s journey from a young aspirant to a seasoned candidate reflects the spirit of perseverance, emphasizing that true power lies with the people.
