Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned from his position, with his departure set to take effect on July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, June 15.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also disclosed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from office, creating two vacancies within the Commission’s top leadership.
According to the government spokesperson, Dr. Asare decided to step down in order to return to academia and continue his professional career at the University of Ghana. He noted that the outgoing deputy chair expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve the nation through the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further revealed that steps are already being taken to fill the vacant positions. He said a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the constitutional process required for the appointment of a replacement.
He explained that an official announcement regarding a successor to Mr. Tettey would be made once the Council of State concludes its review. A separate process, he added, will subsequently be initiated to appoint a replacement for Dr. Asare.
The developments mark a significant transition within the Electoral Commission, with additional information expected to be provided on the leadership changes and succession arrangements in the coming weeks.
