Janet Nabla, founder of the People’s National Party (PNP), has challenged the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide evidence for her recent disqualification from the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Speaking on ABC IN THE MORNING on September 24, 2024, Nabla asserted, “They lied,” referencing her belief that the commission’s actions were aimed at removing strong candidates, leaving weaker females in the race.

Her comments follow accusations from the EC that her Vice Presidential Candidate failed to sign necessary nomination forms.

Nabla described the disqualification process as “very painful and disheartening,” questioning the integrity of the EC’s claims.

“If someone disqualifies you in the right way, I don’t think you will have problems, especially when the person comes out with accurate information to back actions,” she stated.

She expressed frustration over the fact that candidates who allegedly did not meet the requirements were still allowed to compete while she faced unjust disqualification.

During the interview, she emphasized the need for accountability from the EC, demanding, “We dare the EC to show Ghanaians where my Vice President placed where she did not sign.”

Nabla further declared her intention to sue the EC and stated that she would file an injunction against the upcoming elections.

“If they are able to show us, I will not even contest anymore,” she added, demonstrating her determination to fight the disqualification.

The EC, which has approved 13 candidates for the December 7 elections, has faced criticism for its handling of the nomination process.

In its statement, the EC claimed that Nabla and others were disqualified for non-compliance with nomination requirements.

However, Nabla argues that these decisions are politically motivated, accusing EC Chair Jean Mensa of being “jealous” and “dishonest.”

As tensions mount, Nabla’s legal team is preparing to file an injunction at the Supreme Court, adding further uncertainty to the upcoming electoral process.
