Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has announced that the Ministry of Energy is preparing to launch a nationwide streetlighting project aimed at enhancing public safety and supporting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
The initiative is expected to address lighting challenges in urban and rural areas, with a focus on enabling productivity and secure movement at night.
Speaking to the media today, Nana Yaa Jantuah acknowledged the current absence of streetlights on major roads in Accra and other parts of the country.
She explained that efforts are underway to improve lighting infrastructure, which is critical for the success of the 24-hour economy policy.
“From where I sit, I know the Ministry of Energy is going to roll out streetlighting all over the country because the 24-hour economy impinges largely on lighted areas,” she stated.
Jantuah further touched on the streetlight levy collected from consumers, calling for accountability and transparency in how the funds are used.
“The streetlight levy also needs to be located for effective use,” she added, stressing that the levy should directly support the planned rollout and help resolve persistent streetlighting challenges across Ghana.
