Former Ghanaian international footballer Samuel Inkoom has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with one surety by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court, presided over by Judge Isaac Addo, heard that Inkoom is facing charges of defrauding by false pretenses.
Pleading not guilty to the charges, the footballer is expected to reappear in court on December 30, 2024. The prosecution of the case is being led by Jonas Laweh.
The allegations involve Benyamm Opare-Addo, a student who accused Inkoom of defrauding him in a failed visa acquisition deal.
According to the prosecution, Inkoom claimed ownership of S. Inkoom Travel and Tour Company and assured the complainant that he could secure a Netherlands visa for $3,500.
Opare-Addo reportedly paid GH¢32,100 in installments between September and November 2023. Despite promises to deliver the visa within a month, Inkoom failed to do so, prompting the complainant to file a police report in January 2024.
Police investigations revealed that Inkoom admitted to the offense and partially refunded GH¢7,000 in April 2024, with a pledge to pay the outstanding GH¢25,100, which he failed to honor. Following his arrest, the footballer was formally charged.
The case has garnered significant public interest as Inkoom faces legal scrutiny over the allegations.
