The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has deployed personnel to key locations across the country to assist the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in ensuring the security of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 6, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, the Director General of Public Relations, explained that the deployment is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process.

The GAF assured the public that military personnel would not be stationed at polling stations, and their role would primarily be to provide standby support to the police.

The statement emphasized that election security would remain under the responsibility of the Ghana Police Service, with the military stepping in only if requested by the police.

The public was reassured that there was no cause for alarm if military personnel were seen in their localities.

This joint effort between the GAF and GPS seeks to maintain law and order throughout the election period while preserving the integrity of the democratic process.

The statement urged Ghanaians to exercise their civic duties responsibly, cooperate with security forces, and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace.
