Ghanaian national Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited to the United States to face charges linked to an alleged $8 million romance scam case.

Information gathered indicates that Abu Trica was flown out of Ghana on Thursday, July 9, on board Delta Airlines flight DL 157, following a court order approving his surrender to US authorities.

The extradition follows a July 2 ruling by the High Court in Accra, which granted a request by US authorities for Abu Trica to be handed over to face allegations of involvement in a romance fraud scheme.

Prior to his extradition, Abu Trica’s lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, had raised concerns over his client’s access to legal representation, stating that he had been unable to locate or meet him ahead of the process.

According to the lawyer, Abu Trica had reportedly been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra, making it difficult for him to establish contact with his client before the extradition proceedings were completed.

Abu Trica, who had been in custody since December 2025, was earlier granted bail by the Accra High Court in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties after spending months in detention.

However, the court later approved the extradition request, clearing the way for his transfer to the United States, where he is expected to appear before the appropriate authorities and continue legal proceedings over the alleged fraud case.

The US authorities are expected to pursue the allegations against him as the case enters a new phase.
