The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has officially reversed a number of recent staff promotions following an internal investigation that uncovered widespread violations of its human resource policies.

This decision was announced in a press release signed by the Authority’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Department.

The reversal follows multiple formal petitions submitted to the Acting Director General, Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, alleging irregularities in the promotion process across several departments.

In response to the complaints, the Acting Director General commissioned a special committee to conduct a thorough review of the promotion practices within the organization.

After months of investigations, the committee found that several promotions breached established HR protocols.

Some staff reportedly received multiple promotions within a single year, while others who were qualified for elevation were sidelined without just cause.

“These disparities were contrary to the principles of fairness and had the potential to demoralize hardworking staff,” the GPHA noted in its statement.

Management emphasized that the decision to cancel the promotions was not intended as punishment, but as a necessary corrective step to restore fairness, meritocracy, and fiscal responsibility within the Authority.

The statement further explained that the cumulative financial implications of the flawed promotions posed a serious risk to the long-term stability of GPHA’s finances.

“This decision was taken with the utmost sensitivity, fairness, and objectivity… all in the interest of Ghanaians, and in line with the Reset Agenda, which seeks to restore discipline, accountability, and integrity in public sector institutions,” the release emphasized.

To maintain transparency and employee confidence, GPHA has instituted proper channels for affected staff to seek redress or clarification.

The Authority expressed optimism that the corrective action will ultimately boost staff morale and reposition the institution as a performance-driven, forward-looking organization committed to professionalism and accountability.
