Government has declared Friday, March 20 and Monday, March 23, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr and Shaqq Day.
In a statement issued on March 13, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak, announced that Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, 2026, have been designated as statutory public holidays in recognition of the Eid-Ul-Fitr and Shaqq celebrations.
However, since March 21 falls on a Saturday, John Dramani Mahama has, by Executive Instrument (E.I.), declared Monday, March 23, 2026, as an additional public holiday to be observed nationwide.
The declaration was made in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, which allows the President to designate an alternative day as a public holiday when a statutory holiday falls on a weekend.
The Interior Ministry therefore urged the general public to observe the days as public holidays throughout the country.
The announcement was formally signed by the Interior Minister and Member of Parliament, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on March 13, 2026
