The government has announced the imposition of a 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew in Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding areas effective Sunday, July 27, 2025, until further notice.

According to a press statement from the Presidency Communications, the curfew—announced earlier by the Ministry of the Interior—is not only aimed at helping to restore peace but also to facilitate the safe evacuation of students from the affected communities.

The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, noted that several students in the conflict areas have unfortunately been targeted, necessitating immediate evacuation under enhanced security.

The government emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the lives of students as tensions rise in the conflict-prone zones.

The curfew follows a deadly weekend that saw three students fatally shot on the campuses of Nalerigu SHS and Bawku SHS on Saturday, July 26.

The victims, whose names have not been disclosed, were attacked by unknown assailants.

While the motive remains unclear, there is growing speculation of a link to the longstanding Bawku tribal conflict.

Security agencies have commenced preliminary investigations, and the community remains on edge as calls grow louder for protection and justice.
