Policy Analyst Dr. Peter Terkper has urged the government to issue a comprehensive and transparent framework to guide the cancellation of fuel allowances for political appointees.
Speaking to ABC News GH on Wednesday, he indicated that while the directive to scrap the allowances may be part of broader cost-cutting efforts, the absence of clear guidelines risks creating confusion and damaging public confidence in the government’s intentions.
“I wish they would bring a more detailed release,” Dr. Terkper said in an interview.
He questioned the practicality of the measure without a proper plan, stating, “I don’t think they are cancelling it entirely. I don’t think cancellation is the way out—otherwise, it will obstruct their officials’ effectiveness.”
He stressed that eliminating fuel allowances without alternatives could hamper the ability of public officials to carry out their daily duties efficiently.
“As it is being cancelled, how will they move? How will they work?” he queried, adding, “There needs to be clarity on that.”
Dr. Terkper’s comments reflect growing public interest in how move will affect critical logistics and service delivery.
