The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has announced that 800,000 farmers registered on the GHAAP Farmers App will each receive two bags of NPK fertilizer and one bag of Urea fertilizer to boost crop yields.

He noted that for those in the eight regions up north and the transitional belt severely impacted by the dry spell, the Ministry will provide food grants consisting of a 25kg bag of rice and a 100kg bag of maize each.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, 1st October, 2024, Dr. Acheampong emphasized that farmers must register their farms on the GHAAP Farmers App to access these benefits.

“Go and register your farms, so you can benefit from government’s policies,” he urged. He assured farmers that this initiative is apolitical and aimed solely at providing relief and support to farmers.

He added that approximately 800,000 farmers have registered on the platform in the past four months, a significant milestone towards transforming agricultural support.

The Minister also revealed that 2,700 agricultural extension officers have been equipped with Samsung A9 tablets worth GH₵4,000 each to facilitate digital registrations. Each officer has been tasked to enroll at least 12 farmers daily.

He encouraged farmers to embrace digital technology, stressing, “There is no politics in this,” and appealed to all to take an active interest in going digital for better accountability and access to resources.
