The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-level security delegation to the Savannah Region to assess the situation following violent communal clashes that left at least five people dead and six others injured in Gbiniyiri, a farming community.
Local authorities said the violence erupted on Sunday morning after a dispute over a parcel of land, with three of the injured currently in critical condition.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the IGP’s team from the National Police Headquarters is scheduled to meet chiefs, opinion leaders, and community leaders to deliberate on measures to restore calm.
The visit, the Police noted, forms part of broader efforts to intensify security in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and other affected communities that have been unsettled by the clashes.
Meanwhile, reinforcement teams from the Ghana Police Service, working in close collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces and other security stakeholders, have been deployed to the area.
The Police have urged all parties to exercise restraint and cooperate with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
