Award-winning Ghanaian Afrobeats star KiDi has officially announced his departure from Lynx Entertainment, bringing an end to a decade-long journey that helped shape his rise to stardom.

The “Odo” hitmaker made the revelation during an interview with content creator Code Micky, where he confirmed long-standing speculation about his future with the label.

When asked directly, “Are you still at Lynx?”, KiDi responded: “I’m no longer with Lynx Entertainment.”

The confirmation marks a significant turning point for one of Ghana’s most consistent hitmakers, who spent the past 10 years under the guidance of Lynx Entertainment CEO Richie Mensah.

During the same interaction, Code Micky referenced a widely held belief in the music industry that artists struggle to produce hits after leaving the label.

“There is a perception in the system that people think that if you leave Lynx, it becomes difficult to have hit songs,” he noted, adding that KiDi had become “a clear case” to challenge that narrative.

Seeking clarity on the timeline of his exit, Code Micky further asked whether KiDi was still signed during the release of some of his recent works.

“So the ‘Lomo Lomo’ days, were you there or you had left?” he asked.

KiDi replied: “I was there.”

When pressed about whether he was still there during the release of his single ‘gymnastic’, he revealed: “That was my exit.”

KiDi’s departure comes after a period of transition at Lynx Entertainment, which has seen other top acts, including Kuami Eugene and MzVee, move on from the label.

Over the years, KiDi built an impressive catalogue with hits such as “Say Cheese” and notable collaborations with Nigerian stars Davido and Mayorkun. His journey, however, was not without challenges.

In previous interviews, including one on the Talk No Dey Cook Rice podcast, the singer disclosed that he nearly got dropped early in his career due to his insistence on maintaining an R&B-influenced sound, despite pressure to conform to other directions. His persistence ultimately paid off, leading to chart-topping success and multiple awards.

Now operating independently, KiDi is said to have launched his own imprint, Black Boy Joy, with global licensing arrangements through Encore Recordings. The move gives him greater creative control while maintaining access to international distribution channels.

Coinciding with the announcement, the singer has ushered in a new era of music. He recently released a new single, “Babylon,” which blends Afrobeats with Ghanaian highlife influences, earning praise for its emotional depth and themes of heartbreak, growth, and resilience.

In addition, he has teased an upcoming album titled Where Do We Go From Here, signaling a fresh chapter in his career.

The development also follows his recent collaboration with Lasmid, further demonstrating his continued relevance and hitmaking ability beyond the confines of a traditional label system.

Lynx Entertainment, known for nurturing talent, now faces the challenge of rebuilding its roster following multiple high-profile departures.

KiDi, meanwhile, remains focused on the music and expanding his global reach, with his departure widely seen as a bold step toward artistic independence in an evolving industry landscape.
