Security analyst Mutaru Mumuni Muktar has called for an end to the normalization of election violence in Ghana, stressing the need for zero-violence outcomes in future elections.
Speaking to ABC NEWS GH, he commended President John Dramani Mahama for directing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate election-related deaths from the 2020 and 2024 polls.
He noted the relevance of the investigative team, stating, “It shows how dedicated President Mahama is to solving this matter and restoring public confidence in electoral integrity.”
However, Mutaru expressed concerns over potential political interference in the IGP’s Special Investigative Team, chaired by Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe.
While acknowledging the team’s skill and experience, he urged measures to ensure independence and credibility in their findings.
This initiative is a step forward, but we must safeguard it from external influences to achieve justice..
The IGP has assured the President that all resources will be made available to the team, which operates under strict timelines to deliver a comprehensive report.
