The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has announced that petrol prices will decrease by 3%, while diesel and LPG prices will remain unchanged.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Paul Ofori, Head of Research at COPEC indicated that the price changes will take effect from tomorrow, February 28, 2025.
“Petrol prices are expected to come down, and if nothing at all, they should at least remain stable.”
This development comes as a relief for many amid the high cost of living and economic pressures.
Commenting on President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), Paul Ofori criticized the government for “rephrasing their political manifesto instead of presenting the real state of the nation.”
He acknowledged that Mahama had fixed the country’s energy crisis in the past but blamed recent power outages on aging Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and financial constraints.
He also pointed to issues with the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) as a major challenge, warning that until those issues are fully addressed, power supply may remain unstable.
Meanwhile, WAPCo has assured that ongoing maintenance work on its gas pipelines will be completed by March 2, 2025, with 70% of the work already done.
