The Ministry of the Interior has, with immediate effect, suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following a shooting incident in Kwabenya that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo, hospitalised.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry said the decision follows reports of alleged misconduct by personnel of the company during operations at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations suggest possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.
“The Ministry of the Interior has, with immediate effect, suspended the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence for Kantanka Security Services Limited,” the statement noted.
It further indicated that the alleged use of unapproved uniforms, as well as unauthorised possession and use of firearms and security accoutrements, represents a serious breach with implications for public safety.
The Ministry stressed that such conduct “constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security.”
Following the suspension, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to cease all operations pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
“All institutions are advised to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited pending the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.
The Ministry also instructed the company to fully cooperate with the Ghana Police Service and provide all necessary information to support a thorough investigation.
It further assured the public that the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding national security while investigations continue. Appropriate sanctions, it said, will be applied in line with the law once investigations are completed.
The Ministry of the Interior further reminded all Private Security Organisations to adhere strictly to the approved uniform regulations issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026.
The public has also been encouraged to report any unlawful activities involving private security personnel to the nearest police station.
“The Ministry reiterates its commitment to ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory requirements,” the statement said, adding that action will be taken against any organisation found in breach of the law.
