Ghanaian comic actor Koo Fori, known off-screen as Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding a US-based Ghanaian of $50,000 when he appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on Monday, May 12, 2025.
The charges stem from allegations that the actor, popular for his role in the Efiewura TV series, received funds under the pretext of facilitating a legitimate investment deal but failed to honour the agreement.
He was arrested by the Accra Central Police Command on Friday, May 9, after reportedly going into hiding.
The court granted him bail of GH₵320,000 with three sureties. According to police sources, the California-based complainant lodged a report after several unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the money from the actor.
Investigations revealed that not only did Koo Fori default on the promised repayment, but he also failed to respond to a court summons issued earlier by the Dansoman District Court on April 17, 2025.
His absence led to a bench warrant for his arrest.
The case has attracted public attention given Koo Fori’s prominence in Ghana’s entertainment industry, with many awaiting further court proceedings.
The identity of the victim remains undisclosed, and the court is expected to continue hearing the matter in the coming weeks.
