Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed his delight after his side battled to a 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 21 clash on Wednesday night.
A lone goal from defender Daniel Adjetey at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter, helping the Porcupine Warriors secure maximum points.
Reflecting on the match, Ogum acknowledged Berekum Chelsea’s resilience, admitting that their direct style of play and aerial strength made it a difficult contest for his team.
“I think it was a very physical game, looking at the manner in which Chelsea played, resorting to direct long balls. They are very good aerially. It made the game challenging, especially in the middle of the park.”
Despite Kotoko edging out their opponents, Ogum admitted that Chelsea had their moments and put his side under pressure.
“It was a balanced game, that’s what I will say, because somewhere down the line, they also came into the picture, then tried to run us down. It was a very challenging game, but at the end of the day, the important thing is that we won.”
The crucial victory sees Asante Kotoko reclaim the top spot in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League standings with 45 points, further strengthening their title aspirations.
With momentum on their side, Ogum’s men will now set their sights on maintaining their lead in the remaining fixtures.
