President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), effective Friday, January 17, 2025.
This decision, which aligns with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L.64), signals a strategic shift in the leadership of the national oil corporation.
The announcement was made in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
The appointment of Mr. Bawa comes pending the required advice from the Minister for Energy and consultation with the Public Services Commission, as stipulated in the governing laws.
In his new role, Bawa is expected to steer the GNPC through key challenges and opportunities in the oil and gas sector, with a focus on maintaining operational efficiency and contributing to national economic development.
