President John Dramani Mahama has, with immediate effect, cancelled all fuel allowances and fuel allocations to political appointees as part of his administration’s intensified efforts to curb government expenditure and enforce fiscal discipline.
The directive forms a central part of the broader Reset Agenda being pursued by the Mahama government.
The announcement was made in an official statement issued by Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
According to the statement, the decision reflects the President’s commitment to redirecting state resources into more pressing development priorities.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” the statement emphasized.
This latest action follows earlier austerity measures, including a reduction in the size of government, fewer ministerial appointments, and the suspension of satellite TV subscriptions at the Presidency and across government institutions.
The administration has signaled that additional cost-saving interventions may follow as it works to rebuild public trust and stabilize the national economy.
