President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two new Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) for the Central Region, pending approval by their respective Assemblies.
This follows provisions under Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Wednesday, May 28, Rev. Atta Mensah has been nominated for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, while Gariba Adam has been selected for the Assin Central Municipal Assembly.
The statement, signed by the sector Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, underscored that the appointments remain subject to the formal confirmation processes by the respective Assemblies in accordance with the law.

The nominations are expected to trigger Assembly sittings in the coming days to either confirm or reject the President’s picks.
This move is part of broader efforts to deepen Ghana’s decentralisation and improve governance at the local level, particularly in strategically significant municipalities like Effutu and Assin Central.
