President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Edward Bawa from his recent position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to become the Group CEO of GOIL, Ghana’s leading indigenous oil marketing company.
Bawa, who was appointed to head GNPC on January 16, 2025, has now been tasked with leading GOIL in a move that has drawn widespread attention.
The sudden reassignment leaves the GNPC CEO position vacant, with no immediate announcement on a replacement.
Before his appointment to GNPC, Edward Bawa served as the Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2025, actively shaping the country’s energy policies.
He was a key member of the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy, as well as Communications, where he championed reforms in the energy sector.
Beyond politics, Bawa has extensive experience in energy management, having served as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy.
In this role, he led stakeholder engagement and public advocacy efforts for major energy initiatives.
His expertise is backed by certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization, making him well-positioned to lead GOIL’s strategic growth.
