The newly sworn-in 6th President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has revoked the appointments of all Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDCEs), as well as Assembly Members appointed under the relevant provisions of the law.
“In accordance with the power vested in H.E John Mahama under the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act , 2017,(Act 940), the following appointments have been revoke effective today.
- Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
- Assembly Members appointment pursuant to the relevant sections of the Act.”
This announcement was conveyed through an official statement issued by the Office of the President.
The statement, signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., emphasized that the decision aligns with the President’s commitment to reorganizing local governance structures for enhanced accountability and efficiency.
“In the interim, the respective Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs are directed to assume responsibilities as acting Chief Executives until substansive appointments are duly made,” the statement read.
