The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama is set to appoint new Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) within the next two weeks.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Ashie Moore explained that the replacements are part of President Mahama’s broader effort to restructure local governance following the revocation of the current MMDCE appointments.
“Per our party’s machinery, this week we are also conducting a screening of the nominations for prospective candidates for those positions. So, I can assure party members, especially in my region, that if all goes well, by the close of the next 14 days, we will have MMDCEs in place. They should cooperate with us,” Ashie Moore stated.
The announcement comes on the heels of a January 8, 2025, statement issued by the Office of the President, which confirmed the termination of the current MMDCEs as part of a plan to enhance the efficiency of local governance.
Ashie Moore also called on NDC supporters to remain patient and trust in the party’s internal processes, noting that the selection process is being conducted with diligence to ensure that competent and capable individuals are chosen for the positions.
