The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, has sent a strong message to military officers ahead of the December elections, urging them to steer clear of any political influence.
He emphasized that their primary duty is to defend the Constitution, not to be swayed by politicians, media members, or business entities. “We will perform our duties professionally.
We will be impartial and neutral,” he stated, reinforcing the army’s commitment to remaining apolitical in the election period.
Major General Onwona also appealed to military personnel to maintain their professionalism while serving the nation, especially during the tense electoral season.
“We have always emphasized the need for members of the armed forces to stay out of partisan politics,” he noted, encouraging officers to cast their ballots responsibly but leave political biases behind once they resume their duties.
The Chief of Army Staff called on the media to act responsibly by avoiding the spread of misinformation, as it could pose a significant threat to the country’s peace.
Speaking at the commissioning of a new accommodation facility in Kumasi, Major General Onwona reassured Ghanaians that the army is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process, underlining that their focus remains on professionalism and neutrality.
