The National Democratic Congress, Majority Caucus in Parliament, has called for the immediate annulment of the recently concluded parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, citing allegations of vote buying. The caucus is also urging that candidates found to have engaged in inducement be barred from contesting any rerun of the election.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had observed widespread reports suggesting some aspirants distributed items to delegates during the primary.

“The NDC Majority Caucus strongly condemns these alleged practices, which run counter to our party’s mission to reset Ghanaian politics and uphold integrity in the democratic process,” the statement read.

Following extensive deliberations, the caucus revealed that its core and extended leadership had resolved to formally present two demands to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC: the annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary and the disqualification of any candidate proven to have engaged in vote buying from participating in a rerun.

The call for action comes amid mounting scrutiny of the primary, which has been clouded by reports of inducement and unethical conduct. Sources indicate that delegates allegedly received items such as 32-inch televisions and boiled eggs during the voting process. Images and social media posts documenting the alleged inducements sparked widespread debate and unease within the party.

In response to the allegations, the NDC has set up a three-member investigative committee chaired by former Minister of Information, Kofi Totobi Quakyi. Members Mahama Ayariga and lawyer Emefa Fugah will work alongside him, and the panel is expected to submit its findings by Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The party emphasized that the investigation is part of its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct. It will also propose sanctions and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences of inducement in internal elections.

“The NDC Majority Caucus remains steadfast in its determination to restore credibility and integrity to our political processes,” the statement concluded.
