Former Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka, has firmly stated that the chieftaincy of Bawku is non-negotiable and must remain with the Kusasi people.
He emphasized that the courts have already decided on the matter, and any attempt to install a Mamprusi chief in Bawku would be a violation of the rule of law.
Speaking on ABC Morning, Mr. Avoka called on security personnel deployed in Bawku to act professionally and remain non-partisan.
He stressed that while residents have no justification for attacking security forces, the personnel must conduct themselves properly, especially in a tense environment marked by mutual suspicion.
“We have no right to attack the security, but on the other hand, we expect the security on the ground to be very professional and non-partisan,” he stated.
Mr. Avoka reiterated that the recognition of the Kusasi as the rightful heirs to the Bawku paramountcy is non-negotiable.
“What is non-negotiable is that a Mamprusi man cannot come from Nalerigu and be Chief in the Kusasi area in the Upper East Region. No way,” he declared.
He added, “The Courts have decided, and everybody is bound by it. We are living in a country of rule of law.”
