Mohammed Kudus has reportedly withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, despite being named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad.
According to reports, Kudus wants to remain at Tottenham Hotspur as he continues his recovery and works towards regaining full physical condition and match sharpness before returning to international duty.
The report further indicates that the decision has been communicated to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
However, the GFA has not publicly confirmed Kudus’ withdrawal or announced a replacement for the Tottenham forward.
The reported decision comes shortly after the 26-year-old returned to Premier League action following a lengthy injury lay-off.
Kudus came on at half-time in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and provided the assist for Conor Gallagher’s 86th-minute goal, cutting the ball back from the byline.
The appearance followed his first start since January in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool earlier in the week.
Kudus had spent about seven months on the sidelines after suffering a significant quad injury in January. Tottenham later confirmed in April that he had suffered a setback in his recovery and required further specialist assessment.
The injury ruled him out of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, but his return to competitive football led to his inclusion in Queiroz’s latest Black Stars squad.
His last appearance for Ghana came on October 12, 2025, when he scored the winning goal in the Black Stars’ 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Comoros in Accra.
With Ghana set to face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, The Gambia on September 29 and Morocco in a friendly on October 4, Kudus’ return to the Black Stars will now have to wait as he continues his recovery and works towards regaining full fitness at Tottenham.
