The Asante Kingdom has officially unveiled Nana Ama Bonsu I as its new Asantehemaa, ushering in a new era in one of the kingdom’s most revered traditional institutions.

Her enstoolment fills the vacancy created following the passing of Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III in 2025. Since then, the prestigious office of the Asantehemaa had remained vacant.
The unveiling ceremony, performed in line with the customs and traditions of the Asante Kingdom, formally introduced Nana Ama Bonsu I as the Queenmother of Asanteman. The event brought together traditional authorities, dignitaries and members of the kingdom, who gathered to witness the historic occasion.
Asante queenmothers occupy a vital position within the traditional governance system, serving not only as custodians of the kingdom’s customs and cultural heritage but also as key advisers to the Asantehene on matters concerning governance, succession and the well-being of the people.
In addition to preserving tradition, the Asantehemaa plays an important role in promoting social harmony, resolving disputes and championing the welfare of women and children across the kingdom.
Nana Ama Bonsu I is expected to build on the legacy of her predecessor by upholding these responsibilities while contributing to the continued preservation of Asante values and institutions.
Her assumption of office restores one of the highest traditional leadership positions in the Asante Kingdom and is expected to reinforce the kingdom’s governance and cultural heritage for generations to come.
