The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to release the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) for the December 7 general elections, expressing concerns over the delay.
According to the NDC, the register should have been provided to political parties ahead of the upcoming exhibition exercise.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, criticized the EC on Facebook, stating that the delay is a result of “incompetence” and a deliberate attempt to deliver a “sub-standard” register.
The NDC has raised alarms about the implications of the EC’s actions, noting that with only six days left before the exhibition begins, political parties still do not have access to the PVR.
Dr. Boamah warned that this could lead to a chaotic situation, as it leaves little time for critical examination of the register. He emphasized that the delay, coupled with the EC’s refusal to seek technical support from the UNDP, could potentially lead Ghana into “anarchy.”
The party also highlighted past issues with the EC’s IT Department, pointing to network failures during the recent Limited Registration Exercise and other incidents as evidence of inefficiency.
Dr. Boamah urged civil society organizations, religious bodies, and diplomatic missions to monitor the EC’s activities closely, asserting that the Commission is not demonstrating a commitment to delivering credible elections.
