Dr. Dockson Adomako Kissi, Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, has revealed that not all stakeholders were in agreement with the location of the controversial National Cathedral project.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Dr. Kissi shared that some members of Parliament, including himself, believed the cathedral would have been better situated outside Accra to make it more accessible for visitors from all regions.
He also noted that the scope and cost of the project had significantly changed over time, raising concerns about its direction.
Despite these reservations, Dr. Kissi expressed the belief that the National Cathedral could become a key national landmark for all Ghanaians, regardless of the government in power.
He pointed out that, much like the US Capitol, which hosts significant state functions, the National Cathedral could eventually host major events such as presidential inaugurations.
“It is something that will be there, not necessarily for one government, but all governments in this country,” he said, emphasizing the potential long-term significance of the project.
In related news, Dr. Rashid Tanko of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged that an NDC-led government would ensure accountability for anyone involved in the National Cathedral project.
Tanko, speaking on ABC in the Morning, called for a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption surrounding the project, following a recommendation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for a forensic audit.
He vowed to prosecute those implicated, stating that religious leaders involved in the project were merely “fronting for politicians to steal state money.”
