The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given its National Disciplinary Committee a two-week deadline to investigate petitions filed against former Assin Central Member of Parliament and former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.

The decision was reached after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) considered several petitions and referred the matter to the disciplinary body in accordance with the party’s constitution and internal procedures.

Speaking on Joy News, the NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, disclosed that the National Council subsequently endorsed the referral and tasked the committee with completing its work within 14 days.

The committee, chaired by former Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, is expected to investigate the issues raised in the petitions and submit its findings to the National Council for consideration.

According to Nana Boakye, the council will make the final determination on the matter after reviewing the committee’s report, including any sanctions it may deem necessary.

He declined to speculate on the possible outcome of the investigation, stressing that it would be inappropriate to prejudge the committee’s work.

“The right constitutional and procedural process is being followed,” he stated.

He further explained that the National Council, which serves as the party’s second-highest decision-making body, would carefully examine the recommendations before taking any action.

The development comes amid increasing tensions within the opposition party, which became evident during a National Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday.

Reports indicate that some supporters gathered outside the meeting venue engaged in confrontations, while others chanted “Ken Must Go” in apparent reference to Mr. Agyapong.

The tensions are believed to be linked to recent remarks by the former presidential aspirant, who criticised the party’s leadership over what he described as delays in operationalising the Afari Military Hospital.

The disciplinary committee is expected to present its report to the National Council within the next two weeks, after which the party will determine the next course of action.
