The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on its members to come out and vote in the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, assuring them of protection despite widespread reports of violence at various polling stations.
Speaking to the media, the party’s parliamentary candidate revealed that “almost all polling stations are chaotic with the exception of Odorkor 4 and 5.”
She recounted a disturbing incident where a ballot box was picked right in front of her, saying it was only through swift intervention that it was returned.
She warned that if security fails to act, “the NPP will have to come with their own security.”
Addressing the press, NPP communications member Miracles Aboagye accused the opposition NDC’s taskforce of orchestrating the unrest, calling on their leadership to rein in their supporters.
“Leadership should advise their people for a peaceful election, else the NPP will retaliate,” he cautioned.
The party urged the Ghana Police Service to take a more active role in calming the situation, amid growing concerns over attacks on politicians, journalists, and voters that have cast a shadow over the rerun process.
