The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has renewed calls for the immediate arrest of social media activist Ralph St. Williams, who allegedly assaulted a nurse at the Ridge Hospital.
The Association’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, Philimon Gyapong, said Ralph acted out of ignorance of the triage system but resorted to recording a video in frustration.
He stressed that the act was criminal and must not be tolerated, reiterating that the suspect’s arrest was necessary to serve as a deterrent to others.
In a related development, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the alleged assault on nurses and other health professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the Minister said the matter was in the hands of the police and assured that no one was above the law.
He urged the public to allow the police to carry out their work, adding that government was fully briefed and on top of the situation.
Meanwhile, the GRNMA has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the police to arrest Ralph St. Williams and his accomplices, warning of further action should there be delays.
The Health Minister also disclosed that a five-member committee, including a lawyer, auditor, HR officer, medical doctor, and nurse, has been tasked to investigate the incident. He explained that the ministry would handle the administrative aspects while the police pursued the criminal angle, assuring that the outcome would help strengthen protocols and improve safety for health professionals.
