Anti-Corruption Campaigner, Vitus Azeem, has urged the public to exercise patience with government as it pursues ongoing corruption-related investigations under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Mr. Azeem acknowledged growing frustrations among citizens but emphasized that thorough investigations take time.
“We don’t have a choice than to have patience to see what happens, because investigations take a long time. Our expectations were very high. But they probably are encountering some challenges and we do not have a choice than to wait,” he said.
He noted that without adequate evidence, many of the high-profile corruption cases risk collapse in court. “They need to get enough evidence” he added, stressing the importance of patience and diligence.
Mr. Azeem, however, pointed out that while the government has demonstrated some level of determination to fight corruption, certain actions have dented its credibility.
“When the Attorney General dropped some cases from court, that was a dent on their determination to fight corruption,” he said.
He further cited examples, including the handling of cases involving the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, arguing that such decisions undermine public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption agenda.
