Heavy rainfall that began late Wednesday night has left parts of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) campus heavily flooded, disrupting the movement of students and staff and slowing academic activities.
The downpour, which started around 11:30pm on June 10, 2026, led to significant waterlogging along major routes, including the KNUST–Mecca Road. A key bridge in the area and surrounding walkways were submerged, making passage difficult for pedestrians and most vehicles.
As a result, many students had to resort to longer, alternative routes to get to lecture halls, while others remained in their halls of residence out of concern for safety. Several students were reportedly stranded at different points across campus as floodwaters cut off normal access routes.
Despite the challenging conditions, a university shuttle bus was observed navigating through the flooded sections to transport students to their lecture halls. However, smaller vehicles, including taxis, were unable to pass through the affected areas.
University security personnel were deployed to some of the worst-hit locations to regulate movement and ensure safety as the situation persisted across campus.
The situation adds to wider concerns over repeated flooding episodes affecting communities and institutions across the country, raising safety fears during periods of intense rainfall.
