The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has firmly rejected claims that Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) contributed to the purchase of equipment under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
Addressing a durbar at the Awubia Festival in Awutu Bereku, he clarified that the initiative was entirely his brainchild.
Dr. Bawumia explained that during his tenure as chairman of the Critical Roads Committee, he conceived the idea to procure excavators, rollers, graders, backhoes, and tipper trucks for every district in Ghana to facilitate road construction.
He emphasized that the project was not routed through Parliament for approval and was solely implemented by his committee.
“This was an idea from my committee. It has nothing to do with Parliament,” he asserted.
He further cautioned against attempts to distort the facts, stressing, “We funded that. It didn’t go to Parliament for any approval, so nobody should come and claim that they were responsible for all the equipment that we have sent to every district in this country.”
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks serve to set the record straight amid ongoing political discussions surrounding the DRIP initiative.
