President John Dramani Mahama has called on businesses to reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi in their pricing, saying Ghanaians deserve relief from high costs.
Addressing the 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Awards Expo in May 2025, Mahama reiterated his commitment to fiscal discipline and praised organisations that have begun adjusting prices downward in line with the cedi’s improved performance.
“Pass on some of the cedi gains to Ghanaians,” he urged, noting the positive impact such actions would have on the broader economy.
Mahama singled out the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for commendation, lauding its swift move to reduce transport fares in response to the currency’s gains.
He described the decision as a “significant step” in easing the financial pressure on everyday commuters.
His comments come as the Ghanaian economy begins to stabilise, with the cedi showing consistent strength against major foreign currencies in recent weeks.
