The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the assault of JoyNews journalist Latif Iddrisu.
In a statement issued on June 8, 2025, police confirmed the arrest of 55-year-old Theophilus Thompson, a resident of James Town, who was apprehended on June 7 at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
The arrest follows a violent incident on May 27, 2025, during a protest staged by members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in front of the EOCO Office in Accra.
The protest, which was in response to the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, escalated into chaos, during which journalist Latif Iddrisu was assaulted while covering the demonstration.
The police have pledged to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the attack and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding journalists and ensuring justice for any acts of violence against media personnel or the public.
