The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the death of 21-year-old Yabane Deladem Aku, a Level 400 Biological Science student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
According to a police statement issued on Thursday, February 27, 2025, her unresponsive body was discovered behind the Central Laboratory on campus in the early hours of the day.
Medical authorities from KNUST Hospital confirmed her death at the scene before transferring the body to the morgue for autopsy. A police examination uncovered marks of violence, raising concerns about the circumstances leading to her death.
Following further investigations, police arrested Daniel Tuffour, who remains in custody assisting with inquiries.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has since met with the victim’s family to offer condolences and assure them that justice will be served.
Discussions have been held between the police and KNUST authorities on measures to improve campus security.
The police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the investigation, emphasizing their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident.
