The Accra Regional Police Command has issued an update on its investigations into the violent incidents recorded during the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a statement dated July 17 and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Juliana Boateng, the police confirmed that an officer captured in a viral video assaulting a journalist has been interdicted and charged with assault.
The officer’s actions, which occurred at a polling station, were widely condemned and prompted swift internal action by the command.
The police noted that several videos of disturbances at polling centers are currently under review and analysis to identify all persons involved in the chaos.
“The command has progressed to obtain statements from complainants and witnesses to aid in the ongoing investigations,” the statement said.
It further revealed that vital leads have been gathered, and arrests are expected to follow.
Victims of the violent incidents, including a GHOne TV journalist and former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson, have been issued police medical report forms.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for all acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the election. The statement encouraged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information and reaching out via emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
