President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 40 individuals for appointment as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Ashanti Region, in line with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
The nominations, announced in a letter dated May 6, 2025, and jointly signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and the Minister for Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim, are subject to approval by the respective District Assemblies.
Among the nominees are Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka for Ahafo Ano South East District, Benjamin Marfo for Amansie South, and Frank Owusu Amoah for Offinso South.
Others include Samuel Somuah for Sekyere Central, Joseph Amankwa for Kwabre East, and Ben Abdallah Alhassan for Asokore Mampong. The list reflects the government’s renewed focus on grassroots leadership and development across the region.
The Local Government Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, emphasized that the selection process was guided by a commitment to competence, inclusivity, and service delivery, noting that the nominees are expected to drive the government’s decentralization agenda.
Assemblies are expected to conduct confirmation votes in the coming days to formalize the appointments.
