President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday, May 11, 2025, paid a visit to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang in London, where she is recuperating following a brief illness.
The visit coincided with International Mother’s Day, and the President used the occasion to extend warm greetings to all Ghanaian mothers, with a special message to his Vice President.
“She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon,” President Mahama said in an official statement released after the visit.
The President was accompanied by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson and Adaklu MP, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was reported to have suffered a sudden illness on March 28, 2025, and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day.
Based on medical advice, she was flown to London for further treatment and began a three-week medical leave starting April 7, 2025, to ensure a full and safe recovery.
Government sources have assured the public of the Vice President’s improving condition and reiterated her commitment to return to work soon.
President Mahama’s gesture underscores the solidarity within his administration and his appreciation for the role of women in leadership.
“To her and all Ghanaian mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day,” he added, highlighting both the personal and national significance of the day.
