The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) has suspended its strike following a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The NLC’s intervention came after PSWU’s representatives and the government’s team, including the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions (MELRP), and the Ministry of Finance, met to resolve the ongoing labour dispute.
The union had initially threatened an industrial action over unresolved demands for institution-specific allowances, with the strike starting on October 21, 2024.
The NLC, after hearing both sides on October 23, instructed PSWU to end its strike immediately to facilitate further negotiations.
Following the directive, Bernard Adjei, General Secretary of PSWU, confirmed the union’s compliance, stating that members are set to return to work on October 28.
“We’ve suspended the strike as part of the Labour Commission’s directives,” Adjei explained, noting that negotiations on working conditions will resume once members are back at their posts.
Adjei emphasized the importance of constructive communication between institutions and employees, underlining that “there are consequences for every action and decision.”
